Taxi rolls on highway leaving 16 hurt

After a taxi lost its back wheel on the highway, it rolled and left a number of people injured.

Sixteen people sustained moderate injuries after the taxi they were travelling in overturned on the N3 highway near Germiston, on Tuesday morning.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the driver lost control of the taxi after its back wheel came off.

“The taxi then rolled several times, coming to a halt on a barrier,” said Athlenda Mathe, media liaison officer for Netcare 911.

“Exact details to the cause of the accident will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.”

Netcare911 paramedics and other emergency services arrived on scene and managed to stabilise the injured.

All the injured were then transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
