Class of 2015 celebrates

School pupils across the city celebrate their matric results.

Schools across Germiston had a mixed-bag of 2015 matric results.

While some principals were happy with the pupils’ performance, others said that there was still a lot of hard work to be done.

The best performing schools in the area were Hoërskool Goudrif, Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston and Institute Status Acres Secondary School, all recording a 97 per cent pass rate.

Hoërskool Goudrif had 113 matric pupils and achieved 45 distinctions overall.

“We are very happy with the results, as usual the students did what they had to do and performed very well and we are grateful for that.

“This group of matriculants worked really hard and I believe the educators and parents played their part in supporting and assisting the students, it was a team effort,” said Marius Mills, the principal of Hoërskool Goudrif.

“For this year’s matriculants all I can say is that they need to work hard and possibly they can produce the same results if not higher.”

The top performing matriculant was Wian Venter with six distinctions.

There were 125 matrics at Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston and the school achieved 43 distinctions.

The top performing pupil was Savannah Mauihbala with five distinctions.

Retha du Toit, principal of Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston said, “We are happy with the overall results but are sad for those students who did not pass.

“We hope they take the second chance to pass in their supplementary exams.”

Institute Status Acres Secondary School had 41 matric pupils and achieved 17 distinctions.

The top performing pupil was Ruzarashe Makamdire with four distinctions.

Deputy principal Titiem Kyamba said, “We were happy with the increase in the overall pass rate this year, but were disappointed that the university passes dropped.

Next in line was Germiston High School who recorded a 96.29 per cent pass rate.

The school had 184 full-time students and seven part-time students and achieved 36 distinctions overall.

The top performing pupil was Nokubangwa Ngele with three distinctions.

Dinwiddie High School recorded a 92 per cent pass rate from its 234 pupils.

The top performing pupil was Moeketsi Ntladi with five distinctions.

David Mosenye, principal of the school said, “We are happy with the results but feel we could have done better.”

Hoërskool Vryburger High achieved a 91 per cent pass rate.

The school had 150 matric students and overall they achieved 22 distinctions.

The top performing pupil was Nqobile Mtsweni with two distinctions.

Jannie Jordaan, principal of Vryburger said, “In general I am quite pleased with the results. A number of our pupils managed to earn distinctions.”

Hoërskool Elspark attained a 90 per cent pass rate.

The school had 117 matric pupils who achieved 20 distinctions overall.

The top student was Thato Mafora with four distinctions.

Also with a 90 per cent pass rate was Sizwe Secondary School with 81 matric pupils.

The school achieved 17 distinctions overall.

The top performing pupil was Thabang Maledana.

Aaron Nkambule, principal of the school said, “When we look back at the challenges we faced during the year, we are very pleased with our results.”

Hoërskool Primrose High achieved a 90 per cent pass rate.

The school had 151 students and they achieved 68 distinctions overall.

The top performing pupil was Catherine Wolfaardt with six distinctions.

Principal André Grobler said, “We are very proud of our Grade 12 students, we wish them well for 2016 and the journey ahead.

“As a principal, I thank the teachers, they put in long hours and extra work during the terms, holidays and on Saturdays for extra classes, they truly are stars and are the backbone of this great success.

“For this year’s matriculants I am saying hard work equals success, there is no easy way.”

Hoërskool Elsburg achieved an 88 per cent pass rate from its 93 matric pupils.

Dawnview High School achieved an 84 per cent pass rate.

The school had 150 pupils and attained 10 distinctions overall.

The top performing students were Maieane Ramabeletsa and Nonhlanhla Sefeao with two distinctions each.

Moeketsie Kolokoto, principal of the school said, “I am not pleased with the results but I congratulate all those who passed.”

The GCN endeavoured to contact all the schools, however, not all were available for results and comment.
