Work still underway to repair vandalised substation

Some areas of Germiston still without power.

Ekurhuleni technicians are continuing to work around the clock to effect repairs at the vandalised Atom Road substation in order to restore power to parts of Germiston.

Technicians worked through the day yesterday in an effort to restore power by midnight, however, due to heavy rains which swept through the area yesterday, repairs were unsuccessful.

An act of vandalism at the facility on Wednesday night led to approximately 20 000 litres of oil being lost, thus causing damage to the substation.

To remedy the situation, engineers will install a transformer in order to fast-track the restoration of power supply.

Areas that are affected include:

*Wadeville;

*Castleview;

*Estera;

*Dinwiddie; and

*Albemarle.

Residents are reminded to treat all electrical networks and equipment as electrically live at all times.
