Increase in alcohol and drug abuse in the area – say police

Primrose police concerned by the rise in cases of alcohol and drug abuse in the area.

“We have noticed a rise in liquor and drug abuse in the area.”

“We appeal to the community to refrain from using drugs and drinking alcohol excessively,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

As police attempt to crackdown on these types of cases, several operations have been held in the area.

These operations have resulted in 13 suspects being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, three illegal taverns being shut down, and eight suspects were arrested on assault charges, believed to be related to alcohol.

“We will be conducting more operations targeting illegal taverns to try and stop the increase of crime as a result of liquor abuse.

“Those who are selling liquor illegally must think twice this festive season,” said Maome.
