Bringing the joy of Christmas to the elderly

Solidarity Helpende Hand brings some Christmas cheer to the elderly.

The elderly residents at the SAVF Kowa Pienaar Home, in Elspark, were thrilled by a recent visit from Solidarity Helpende Hand Germiston branch.

Just in time for Christmas, the members of the group came along to treat the residents to a wonderful lunch.

The event was organised by Joyce Vogel (project leader elderly people, Germiston branch), Jennifer Araujo (vice-chairman, Germiston branch) and Jose Araujo (assisting-member Solidarity).

The staff and management at Kowa Pienaar welcomed the members with open arms and were hospitable and helpful.

The members organised a special Christmas lunch for the residents consisting of continental potato salad, smoked gammon, sausage rolls, cocktail meat balls and a bread roll with cool drinks and ice cream for dessert.

The residents enjoyed the lunch tremendously with the Christmas music playing in the back ground.

The residents of Kowa Pienaar also assist Solidarity in that they knit teddy bears for needy children.

The toys are made by Annekie Swanepoel and a team of women and they took the lunch as an opportunity to hand-over more teddy bears to the organisation.

The women were sincerely thanked by Solidarity for their assistance and effort.
