Police seize illegal firearm

Police discover unlicensed firearm in a 52-year-old man’s vehicle.

Primrose police recently recovered an illegal firearm in Barbara Road, in Primrose, after officers received a complaint about a 52-year-old man threatening people at the Marlands mini-dump.

“When officers arrived on the scene the accused had already left, but one of the community members at the mini-dump had managed to get his vehicle’s registration,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The vehicle was traced to Barbara Road.

Officers searched it and found a 7.65 Astra mode with nine live rounds of ammunition.

“The man was unable to produce a licence for the firearm and was arrested,” said Maome.

He will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
