Two young women in their teens and a seven-month-old baby boy were murdered in Katlehong on Thursday evening.
They were declared dead on scene by paramedics in Khumalo Section, Katlehong.
Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) paramedics and firefighters responded swiftly to the scene immediately after receiving a drowning case call.
“On arrival, it was found that all three deceased patients were lying motionless on the floor in the house,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.
“Two suspects were saved from the angry community by the prompt arrival of the firefighting crews and law enforcement units from both the EMPD and the SAPS.
“As per information on scene, the two suspects assaulted the three victims before drowning them in a bath full of boiling water.
“Community members were alerted by the screaming of the victims during the attack.
“Two suspects were apprehended and attacked by the angry community members before the arrival of the officials.”
“Pre-hospital treatment was initiated and the suspects were stabilised before being loaded into an ambulance.
“During the process of loading, violence erupted on scene and, subsequently, the ambulance and SAPS vehicles were extensively damaged.
“Fortunately the ambulance managed to escape from the scene and transported the suspects to hospital.
“Both suspects are under police guard in the hospital,” said Ntladi.
“The ambulance crew survived the attack, however, the vehicle is out of commission due to the attack by the angry community.”
A case of murder is being investigated by the Katlehong police.
