H M I cares for children

Children at the Bertha Gxowa Hospital get a heart-warming surprise visit from H M I Service Station representatives.

The Bertha Gxowa Hospital’s paediatric ward received a visit from Driehoek’s H M I Service Station representatives on December 2.

“My daughter, Cindy Willemse, is the owner of the station and it was her idea for us to visit the children here at the hospital,” said Willemse’s father, Enrico Schoeman.

“We are visiting every child in the ward and giving them a little something for Christmas.”

Packets filled with cold drinks, sweets, chips, a present and lucky packets were among the gifts from the team.

“It’s not much, just a small token of love to wish them well,” explained Schoeman.

“My daughter felt the need to give back to the community and to brighten someone else’s life a bit.

“We are hoping to encourage bigger petrol stations to also get involved in such initiatives aimed at helping the community.”

The children’s mothers were among those present and welcomed the visit.

“I am very happy; it is the first time my child is admitted to hospital and it really is heart-warming to receive such love,” said Jeanette Tshabalala, a mother of one of the children.

“This is a great initiative, most of our children have never experienced such,” added another mother, Ntombi Dudumashe.

One of the station’s petrol attendants, Hamilton Malatji, dressed up as Father Christmas and assisted with handing out the gifts and cheering up the children in their wards.
