Hole is taking over Baker Street

Residents in Baker Street are upset about a huge hole in the street.

Residents in Baker Street, Estera, are wondering if the huge hole in the street is ever going to be fixed.

In May, this year, there was a water leak in the street and Michael Kriek, Ward 39 councillor and chairman of the DA Germiston constituency told the GCN that the metro’s water department dug it open and attempted to repair it, but it started leaking again and they just left it.

The water leak was brought to Kriek’s attention by Hendrik Korf, a resident in the street, in September.

“I sent a request to the water department to fix the leak again.

“They re-clamped the pipe in October and left.

“The hole has been open ever since,” Kriek said.

“On October 27, I asked the water department to close the hole, but it has still not been done.

“With the recent rains the hole is getting bigger and all the sand is washing down the road.”
