Man arrested for statutory rape

The Primrose police arrested a man who allegedly raped a young girl in the Marathon informal settlement.

The parents of a young girl from the Marathon informal settlement recently opened a case of statutory rape after their daughter was allegedly raped.

“The parents were worried when the girl did not return home from school as she normally did.

“When she did arrive home she appeared depressed,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The victim’s mother became suspicious and, with the help of her neighbour, they questioned the girl.

“The child told her mother that an unknown man had taken her to his shack, where he raped her,” Maome said.

Officers were able to trace the 28-year-old accused and arrested him on a charge of statutory rape.

He will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
