Save water now — some Germiston areas affected by water shortages

Residents urged to continue to use water sparingly.

In the light of soaring temperatures and scarcity of rain, residents are urged to use water sparingly in order to normalise the water supply.

To achieve this, they are requested to adhere to the following measures consistently in the next seven days:

  • No filling of swimming pools.
  • No gardening and irrigation at all unless you make use of grey water.
  • No water washing of pavements and cars.
  • Reduce showering time and capture in buckets the cold water that initially comes from the shower.
  • Repair leaking cisterns.

“If these measures are adhered to, for the mentioned period, the water supply will normalise,” said Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro.

Some areas of Germiston and Bedfordview have, however, been affected by water shortages; raising the water levels in reservoirs that supply the affected areas remains a challenge due to high demand.

The affected areas are:

  • Primrose.
  • Signal Hill.
  • Lambton.
  • Bedfordview.
