During a recent stop-and-search in Meyer Street, in the CBD, the Germiston Task Team arrested a 29-year-old man.
The man was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“Officers searched the accused during the stop-and-search and found a firearm, with a magazine without any live ammunition, in his possession,” said Sgt Styles Maome, on behalf of the cluster commander.
The man was asked for the license for the firearm, which he could not produce.
“During questioning, officers discovered that the man was from Thokoza and was on his way to the Makause informal settlement,” Maome explained.
“We suspect that he may be involved in several robberies in the area.”
The suspect has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for a bail application.
