More dogs poisoned and muggings increase in Lambton Klip area

Lambton Klip residents warned about increase in crime.

The Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF is warning the community that we are entering the “silly season”, when crime is rife and on the increase in the area.

Pine Pienaar, vice-chairman of the forum, told the GCN that, on Thursday and Friday, dogs were yet again poisoned.

Four dogs were poisoned in Rhodes Avenue, Parkhill Gardens, and housebreakings followed.

“We urge residents to be aware that perpetrators are again at work poisoning our dogs, using polony laced with Aldicarb (also known as Two Step),” Pienaar said.

“If your dog sleeps in the house please take a walk outside and look out for these poisoned packages before letting it out.

“Keep all valuables out of sight as this creates an invitation to criminals to break-in and, if your dogs do bark, please check on them; they may be dead in the morning.”

Mugging is also on the increase in the area and Pienaar warns school children and other pedestrians to always be vigilant and on the lookout.

“Don’t walk with your cellphones or valuables in open view, as the muggers will pounce on you,” he said.

“Arm yourself with pepper spray as a defensive measure and always look around you when you are walking and be aware of your surroundings at all times.”

The warning comes after patrollers received a call about a mugging on Gill Street, at about 5.25pm on Wednesday.

A search was launched for the two male suspects and a CPF member called in a possible sighting on Arenheim Road.

“While searching the area, a patroller was flagged down on Dallas Road by a member of the public who notified him that they were chasing a second group of muggers, two males who had mugged a school child.

“The pupil had purchased airtime for his cellphone at a local shop and was returning home when he was confronted by two men, one armed with a knife, on Order Road.

“The men took the child’s cellphone and fled along the railway line towards the Wadeville Train Station,” Pienaar said.

A chase ensued and one of the men was apprehended.

The 12-year-old boy identified the suspect and his cellphone was recovered from the man.

The Germiston SAPS were notified and the man was arrested.

A case of theft has been opened at the Germiston Police Station.
