Two arrested by EMPD with counterfeit DVDs.

Two men were arrested and 8 000 fake DVDs, as well as computers, DVD players and printers were seized, on Monday, in Katlehong.

The estimated value of the confiscated goods is R150 000.

The arrests were made by members of the EMPD Community Service Delivery and Anti-Cable Theft Unit, at about 6am, after they acted upon information received from a reliable source.

Officers first raided a house in Radebe section and discovered 4 000 fake DVDs, two PC towers, two PC monitors, a DVD player and three printers.

It is believed the equipment was used to produce the counterfeit DVDs.

This man was arrested in Radebe section in Katlehong and his goods were confiscated by EMPD officers, on Monday.

The 30-year-old suspect was arrested and charged at the Ramokonopi Police Station in Katlehong.

“Before being charged, the suspect decided to reveal the place where his partner in crime resides,” said the spokesman for the EMPD, Wilfred Kgasago.

“The metro police members went to a house in Sikhosana section and upon searching the place, uncovered the same number of fake DVDs, as well as similar equipment to the find in Radebe section.

“The 33-year-old man was also arrested and charged at the Katlehong North Police Station.”

The duo face charges of contravening the Films and Publications Act No 65 of 1996 relating to producing, possession and distribution.

The police will peruse all the DVDs thoroughly to ensure that none of them contain images of a pornographic nature.

The two men are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court soon.
