Metro requests consumers to use water sparingly

Don’t use too much water warns metro.

The metro is appealing to residents and businesses in parts of Germiston and Benoni to utilise water sparingly.

This follows an increase in water usage caused by the heatwave which has been sweeping through the province.

Consumers in high lying areas may have noticed a drop in their water pressure, especially during peak hours when the demand for water is high.

“In an effort to cool down, we have found that consumers utilise more water to fill up swimming pools and conduct activities like irrigating their gardens and crops,” said metro spokesman Themba Gadebe.

“This has led to the levels in the reservoirs feeding these areas dropping and thus putting strain on the supply to high lying areas.”

Areas that are currently affected by low water pressure include, Dinwiddie, Albemarle, Wadeville and Elspark in Germiston and Brentwood Park, Bredell, Benoni Agricultural Holdings, the Benoni CBD, as well as Lakefield in Benoni.

Gadebe added that residents should opt for other ways of keeping cool like drinking cool water, staying indoors, utilising fans and wearing loose-fitting clothing.
