Update: Emergency Services respond to CPF’s claims

Cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Pieter Rudolph, senior district manager of emergency planning commented on claims made by the CPF following a fire in Lambton, this morning (Sunday).

He stated that emergency services received the call at 7.32am, 15 minutes after the home’s owner claims the fire started, with firefighters from Germiston Central Fire Station, Wadeville Fire Station, Vosloorus Fire Station, Hlahatsi Fire Station and Alberton Fire Station responding.

Rudolph said the teams had no problems with the fire engines’ pumping systems as previously stated, “There was no problem with the vehicles’ pumping systems.

“The only problem was that the fire hydrant closest to the house failed when the firefighters tried to use it.

“The opening mechanism failed when they wanted to open the water supply to supply water to the fire engine,” he said.

The fire was extinguished and damping down commenced within an hour and 15 minutes of the blaze starting.

“Most of the damage was in the single story section of the house and the following rooms were damaged in the fire; a work room, three bedrooms, a bathroom, the kitchen, the living room and TV room,” said Rudolph.

“The home’s owner was treated for smoke inhalation and shock on scene.”

Rudolph said that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
