Man allegedly steals dead man’s firearm

Firearm stolen after business robbery.

A 23-year-old man was recently arrested by the Primrose SAPS and charged with the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The arrest was made while officers were investigating a business robbery in the Delport Informal Settlement.

“When officers arrived at the scene of the robbery, they found the owner of the business wounded and one of the alleged thieves dead,” said Sgt Styles Maome.

During the preliminary investigation, a witness told the SAPS that a man had taken a firearm from the dead man and ran away.

“The informer gave a description of the man’s clothing and appearance, and officers were able to find him,” said Sgt Maome.

They searched the accused and found a firearm and four live rounds of ammunition in his possession.

“They asked him for the firearm’s license, or proof that it was his, neither of which could be produced,” said Sgt Maome.

He was arrested and detained at the Primrose Police Station; he has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court.

The case was postponed for a bail application.
