Man arrested for attempted hijacking

Motorist manages to avoid hijacking.

A motorist was recently forced to seek refuge at the Primrose Police Station after an attempted hijacking in Rietfontein Road.

“The complainant told officers he had been driving along Rietfontein Road when a Volkswagen Citi Golf, with a Free State registration, drove up beside him and the occupant threatened him with a firearm,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Officers left the station to investigate and found the vehicle, with a single occupant.

“During a routine search of the driver a pellet gun was found.

“We believe that this was the gun used to threaten the complainant,” Maome said.

The 21-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted hijacking.

He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court where his case was postponed for a bail application.
