Metro continues to work on water supply problem

Residents are still battling with low water pressure or no water at all.

The metro has told the GCN that technicians are still working tirelessly to fully restore the water supply to parts of Germiston that have, over the past week, been experiencing low water pressure.

The areas have been affected by technical problems at the Primrose reservoir, which also supplies the Russell reservoir.

While the metro implements permanent repairs to the reservoir, technicians have temporarily by-passed the supply to directly feed the affected areas.

“At present, the water supply has been restored to most of the areas but an alert of low water pressure to no water is still expected in certain areas for the next couple of days,” said metro spokesman Themba Gadebe.

“We also advise all consumers to use water sparingly and store some for domestic purposes while work continues.”

Residents are advised to use water sparingly while investigations are being carried out.

The following areas are affected:

* Wadeville;

* Lambton;

* Hazel Park;

* Hazeldene;

* Dinwiddie;

* Albemarle;

* Castleview;

* The south side of Elsburg.

Roving water tankers will be made available to areas as and when the area/section experiences no water, priority will be given to old age homes and schools.

The metro apologises to all consumers concerned for the inconvenience caused by the interruption of the water supply.
