Emergency water supply interruption affects parts of Germiston

Technicians work to restore water supply.

Residents from several Germiston suburbs have been left without water for up to three days.

Frustrated with the lack of information they received from the metro they contacted the GCN to try and get clarification on the issue.

Following several queries sent to the metro, the GCN has been able to establish that the metro is aware of the water supply interruption affecting parts of Germiston.

In a statement Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro said, “Due to technical problems at the 40 mega litre reservoir in Primrose, residents in a number of areas have been experiencing low water pressure or no water at all.

“The metro and Rand Water technicians are currently on site working around the clock conducting repairs in order to restore the water supply to affected areas as soon as possible.”

The following areas are affected:

  • Albemarle;
  • Aberdeen;
  • Castleview;
  • Elsburg;
  • Germiston;
  • Hazeldene;
  • Lambton;
  • Primrose;
  • Tedstoneville;
  • Wadeville.

It is reported that roving water tankers will be provided to the affected areas, but the metro has yet to supply information on where these tankers can be located.

“The metro wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused and reminds residents to keep all taps closed for the duration of the outage,” Gadebe said.

No indication has been given as to when the water will be restored.
