Lebo aims to make a difference

Local businesswoman comes out tops.

Hirsch’s recently hosted their monthly Women’s Networking Morning, with guest speaker Samantha Bronkhorst, general manager of I Am Worthy (Pty) Ltd.

Samantha was speaking on behalf of Margaret Hirsch’s Women In Business finalist for June, Dr Beverley Wolmarans, on the topic of stress management, personally and in the workplace.

“Worrying could add serious complications to our lives,” she said.

“You have to take a moment once in a while, to control and compose yourself.”

Independent community developer, entrepreneur, micro start-up mentor, philanthropist, counsellor and robust agent of change Germiston’s Lebo Makhathini was announced as the July winner of the Women In Business award.

Lebo is an atmosphere changer and an advocate for holistic community transformation, the eradication of poverty, hunger and injustice and is passionate about community development, youth mentoring and the advancement of education.

In a nutshell – a worthy finalist for the Margaret Hirsch Women In Business Achiever Award.

“I believe quality basic education is a lifelong experience during which people are empowered to acquire competence, confidence, experience and leadership skills,” said Lebo.

Through mentoring and outreach missions, Lebo uplifts individuals and families from diverse communities by inspiring paradigm shift breakthroughs to address the lack of constructive empowerment opportunities and to promote implementation of policies that facilitate entrepreneurship and social cohesion, to alleviate harsh economic circumstances endured by unemployed youth and adults.

She gives priority to indigent women, children brought up by the elderly, vulnerable children and teen girls.

“I am humbled to accept this award,” said Lebo.

“Growing a business can be quite a challenge.

“Women, however, do face specific challenges in the business world on a day to day basis.

“We are offering all women the opportunity to overcome these challenges by taking advantage of the opportunity and networking with one another locally,” said Brigitte Thysse, Hirsch’s regional public relations and marketing manager.

“This event also honours the monthly winners of the ‘Margaret Hirsch East Rand Women In Business’ competition and rewards women in business all over the East Rand.”

The next Hirsch’s Women’s Morning takes place on August 18.
