Child dies in shack fire and mom lies about where she was.

A 45-year-old woman was recently arrested by the Primrose police after she gave a false statement to police officers.

“Officers were investigating an inquest docket into the death of a 15-year-old girl who was burnt to death,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“The mother appeared to have neglected the child.

“It was reported that the child had been left alone when she died in a shack fire.”

When police questioned the mother, she said she was in a nearby portable toilet when the shack caught fire.

She also claimed the incident had happened during the day.

“Paramedics, who were on scene, stated that the incident had taken place at around 11pm, and not during the day as the mother claimed,” said Maome.

“A witness to the fire confirmed that the incident happened at night and stated that the mother was not at home, she was sleeping out at her boyfriend’s house, leaving the deceased alone.”

The mother was arrested and has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where here case was postponed for plea and trial.
