A Sunnyridge family was held up at gunpoint in their Northridge Avenue home, last Friday. “As the accused made their escape in an Audi A4, a Primrose police patrol vehicle arrived on the scene. The suspects fired several shots at the patrol vehicle, hitting the rear of the vehicle, before speeding off,” communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome, explained.

A man making a delivery in Black Reef Road, Wadeville, recently, became the target of hijackers. An armed robber allegedly grabbed him and pulled him out of the bakkie he was driving, while pointing a firearm in his face, two more men searched the complainant and took R200 cash and a LG cellphone valued at R8 000.

The Elsburg SAPS are investigating a case of armed robbery after a recent incident in Wadeville. It is alleged that the complainant stopped his Toyota Hilux bakkie in Osborn Road, Wadeville, as he was coming to the assistance of his colleague, who was driving a company truck which had broken down. “When he stopped next to the truck, in Osborn Road, two unknown males approached him, armed with a revolver, and demanded the bakkie keys,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

An emotional funeral service for the two young boys and the man recently found dead at separate scenes was recently held. The boys’ bodies were found in a BMW in Germiston, while the man’s body was found at his home in Naturena.

He has seen many things change over the years, but one thing’s for certain, Ruven Smukler (94) still enjoys coming to work. Ruven recently celebrated his 94th birthday, and he spent the momentous occasion with his colleagues at Ackermans Pharmacy.
