Can another plan not be made?

Residents of Dawnview furious with metro’s lake of planning.

Residents of Dawnview have not just had to deal with no electricity during load shedding, but no water as well.

The water supply is affected as a pump is needed to get the water from the reservoir to the homes in areas like Dawnview and Sunnyridge.

The residents would like to know why other measures have not been instituted to make sure that the water pump has a back-up power supply.

“Could a back-up power supply not be installed in the area?” is the question many residents ask when calling the GCN.

One resident told a GCN journalist that he had to call the metro’s call taking centre on July 19, to find out why the water had not been restored to the area two hours after the power had been restored.

He claims he was told that the technicians had forgotten to turn the pump back on.

The GCN sent an urgent query to the metro.

Spokesman for the metro Themba Gadebe, said: “There was an incident of electricity cable theft in the vicinity that supplies the water pump station.

“The metro’s energy department has since replaced the cable and water supply was restored.

“We, therefore, apologise for the inconvenience of no water supply.”

No comment was made on residents’ request for an alternative power supply.
