Man beaten with stick in local tavern

Man beaten till he was unconscious.

Two cousins’ recent evening out came to a brutal end when one was beaten with a stick until he passed out.

The two were at a local tavern in the Rasta informal settlement, in Primrose, when the accused came to sit close to them.

The man demanded that the victim give him the chair on which he was sitting.

When the man refused, the accused reportedly pulled out the chair from under him and left the tavern without another word.

The suspect reappeared a few moments later carrying a stick, and attacked the victim.

“The victim opened a case against the man and, using the description given, our detectives were able to track down the suspect and he was arrested,” said communications officer for the Primrose police Sgt Styles Maome.

The man, who was charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
