Avril Elizabeth Home’s residents have a wonderful new garden

Tamlin completes Avril Elizabeth Home garden.

Solheim resident Tamlin-Jade Johnson (22) has continued her efforts as a regional semi-finalist for the Miss Earth South Africa 2015 title, with the completion of a vegetable garden at the Avril Elizabeth Home.

Tamlin officially handed over the garden to the residents of the home on Wednesday.

She thanked Garden on the Go, who assisted with landscaping and planting, and also installed an irrigation system to assist residents in maintaining the garden.

Garden on the Go owner Bruce Ryan gave the home’s Nicky Tudor a tour of the garden, explaining what he and his team had planted and what the residents can expect from each vegetable.

“I hope that this garden will give the independent residents who live in the cottages at the Avril Elizabeth Home something more to look forward to, in addition to their jobs in the workshop,” Tamlin said.

It is estimated that the vegetables will feed two of the cottages.

“The final step will be to start a compost heap, to assist the residents in fertilising the garden, while getting rid of the home’s organic waste,” added Tamlin.

The Miss Earth South Africa 2015 finalists will be named at the end of July — will Tamlin be one of them?
