Local centre cares for the elderly

Help Rest-a-While care for the elderly.

Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Aged has had a face-lift.

The elderly members and staff at the facility are thrilled with the new look.

“Thank you to Lee-Anne Bezuidenhout and the staff from Excueline Insurance Brokers, who donated paint and painted the inside of the centre,”said Wendy Morgan, manager of Rest-a-While.

“The staff spent a Saturday at the centre painting and making it a welcoming place for the elderly to visit.”

Another thank you goes to Mark and Jackie Souter, from Helvetia House, who donated the materials and installed a dry wall, to make a shop area where donated goods are sold to help raise funds for the centre.

Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Aged is a community centre where the elderly of Primrose can come for a home-cooked meal, play Bingo, enjoy a church service and do line dancing.

The centre also delivers home-cooked meals to 60 elderly people who live at home and find it difficult to look after themselves.

“It costs only R45 per year to become a member of the centre and anyone who would like to become part of our ‘family’ is welcome to pop in and see us on the corner of Churchill Avenue and Shamrock Road, in Primrose,” Morgan said.

Rest-a-While also runs a recycling project, where you can drop off your paper and glass in the bins provided.

The money received from this project goes towards feeding the less fortunate senior citizens in the community.

The centre runs an “Adopt -a-Granny” project, whereby individuals or companies can sponsor a granny/granddad each month to receive home-cooked meals.

“These elderly residents receive the social pension of R1 400 per month, from which they have to cover all their living costs and, with this project, we can ensure that they do receive a home-cooked meal each day,” said Morgan.

To become an “Adopt-a-Granny” sponsor contact Morgan on 011 828-3059 or 072 963 9675, or email to restawhileprimrose@gmail.com.
