Stage one load shedding implemented from 8.30am this morning

Low diesel levels one of the contributing factors to today's load shedding.

Eskom has implement stage one load shedding this morning (Wednesday).

Load shedding is likely to continue until 10pm this evening, with any unexpected changes on the vulnerable and constrained power system could lead to a change in the load shedding stage at short notice.

It is a reported that an increase in electricity demand and a shortage of generation capacity resulting from low diesel levels at the company’s open cycle gas turbines.

In a statement released this morning Eskom said, “Eskom would like to assure customers that load shedding is implemented as a necessary measure to protect the power system and to ensure that maintenance is carried out in order to guarantee that our supply of electricity can be maintained in the long term.”
