The 30th annual 1 000 Bike Show took place last weekend, at Germiston High School.
The event, hosted by the Classic Motorcycle Club, has grown from humble beginnings as a small display in the Carlton Centre’s Centre Court, in 1985, to what is now the largest dedicated motorcycle show in Africa.
The show, a hit with bike enthusiasts, saw classic motorcycles from 1907 to 1985, as well as modern bikes on display.
Bike brands included Ariel, BSA, Norton and Triumph, BMW, Laverda, Moto Guzzi, Kreidler and Zundapps.
Various awards were handed out over the two-day event, including:
- Best Standard: Sean McGlead – Kawasaki Z1300.
- Best Street Modified: Boer Prinsloo – Suzuki Katana.
- Best Street Fighter: JHJ Customs – Suzuki Rizzla.
- Best Cruiser: Chris Maree Boulevard.
- Best Classic: Dyno by Quint – Paul Kotze – Kawaski Z900.
- Best Imported Chopper: Dyno by Quint – Iron Horse.
- Best Trike: Elizabeth de Bruyn.
- Best Café Racer: Peter Pelser – Suzuki GT750.
- Special Mention – Best Junior Builder: Sarel O’Neill – Kawasaki.
- Best Engineering: Peter Pelser – Honda 929.
- Best on Show: Peter Pelser – Honda 929.
- Ladies Choice: 1912 Pecision.
- Best Sidecar Category: Anthony Page – Ariel Huntmaster.
- Vintage and Veteran Category: – Shane Tullet – Triumph 1924
- New Era Category: Paul Danvers – Yamaha RD350.
- Scooter Stand: Bradley Edwards – Lambretta LD150.
Members of the Classic Motorcycle Club were thrilled with the turnout at the event and look forward to next year.
