Woman threatens to dump rubbish when metro fails to collect.

When a Rietfontein Road resident recently put her rubbish on the pavement to be collected, she didn’t think it would sit there for two weeks.

“I am fuming,” the resident, who does not wish to be named, told the GCN.

“If my rubbish is not collected immediately I will have no choice but to illegally dump it somewhere, and if I am caught and fined I won’t pay the fine.”

The GCN contacted the metro for answers.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro, said: “Employees at the Germiston Waste Management Depot embarked on an illegal work stoppage from June 9 to 18.

“This resulted in a large amount of rubbish not being collected as it should have been.”

Gadebe has assured residents that the work stoppage is over and rubbish collection will continue as per the refuse calendar.

“All services have been up to date since Monday June 22,” he said.
