Host your own “Forget Me Not” tea party

Take part in Prim Villa’s Progressive tea fund-raiser.

Prim Villa, part of the Methodist Homes (MHA), is a frail and mid-care facility in Primrose Hill, that specialises in the care of those with Alzheimer’s or related dementias.

To raise funds for the home, Prim Villa is encouraging community members to get involved in the “Forget Me Not” progressive tea fund-raiser, held from April to September.

“It is a fun, sociable way to raise funds for the home,” said home manager Sharon Flint.

  • How to take part:

The fund-raiser is open to individuals, groups and companies.

Interested parties simply need to host a tea party in their home or workplace and invite two or three, five or 10, or even 50 or 100 guests (the choice is yours).

“The host supplies the tea and cake and charges each guest an amount of between R10 and R100,” explained Flint.

“The money collected at the function then comes to Prim Villa.”

The reason the tea is called a progressive tea is that hosts are asked to ask each guest at their tea to plan a tea and invite their own guests.

The guests are then asked to do the same, and so on.

“One person could end up being instrumental in making 20 tea parties take place,” Flint explained.

“Many churches have taken this on as a challenge to their congregation members to get involved in outreach on a personal level.

“It is also a favourite among the Women’s Auxiliaries.”

You are also not limited to serving tea.

“Some people have had soup and rolls or a drinks and cocktail function,” Flint said.

“The aim of these functions is to remind us all of how lucky we are to still have our memories in working order and to be able to enjoy special times with loved ones and friends.”

To get involved, call Flint on 011 873-8677 or 083 399 6332.
