Community assist in man’s arrest

Man arrested for common robbery.

Members of the Primrose community recently came to the aid of a woman who was allegedly robbed by a 30-year-old man.

It is alleged that the accused climbed into the woman’s vehicle when she stopped at a stop sign in Medler Road.

“The victim explained that the man threatened her with a sharp object and demanded that she hand over her cellphone and money,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

The suspect grabbed R700 from the victim’s jacket pocket, jumped out of the vehicle and started running away.

The woman’s screams for help were heard by members of the community and they gave chase after the man.

“The accused was chased down and caught by members of the community, who then called officers to the scene,” Maome explained.

“We thank the community members who helped the victim.”

The man was charged with common robbery and will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
