EMPD raid nets illegal cigarettes worth R21 000

Raid leads to arrest of four for possession of illicit smokes worth R21 000.

A shop, staffed by four men, was raided by EMPD Germiston Crime Prevention Unit members on Sunday, June 28.

The shop, located in Rietfontein Road, Primrose, was raided at 10.30am and officers found a total of 42 cartons of illegal cigarettes.

The four men in the shop were arrested and charged at the Primrose Police Station, with possession of illicit cigarettes.

Six cartons of Mega cigarettes and 36 cartons of Sevilles, valued at approximately R21 000, were confiscated.

The men arrested included three Pakistani nationals aged 24, 35 and 27, and one Malawian man, aged 21.

They were expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court on Monday, June 29.
