Every tree makes a difference – says Tamlin

World Environment Day celebrated.

Solheim resident Tamlin-Jade Johnson (22) continued her duties as a regional semi-finalist for the Miss Earth South Africa 2015 title, with the celebration of World Environment Day (WED), recently.

WED is celebrated annually and encourages worldwide awareness of and action for the environment.

Over the years it has grown to be a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated by over 100 countries.

It also serves as the “people’s day” for doing something positive for the environment.

This year’s theme focused on how the well-being of humanity, the environment and economies ultimately depend on the responsible management of the planet’s natural resources.

Tamlin celebrated the day by planting 10 trees from Food Trees for Africa, sponsored by Ackermans Pharmacy in Primrose.

“Each tree we plant makes a difference in the world,” she said.

Tamlin planted five of her trees at the Avril Elizabeth Home and the remaining five at Epworth’s Children’s Village.

The residents at each of these homes were eager to get their hands dirty, despite the cold, and Tamlin took time to teach them how to plant the trees and gave handy tips on how to care for their trees.

The Miss Earth South Africa 2015 finalists will be named in July; will Tamlin be one of them?
