Two men escape, one arrested

Unlicensed firearms found in Makause.

Officers from the Primrose Police Station were recently called to the Makause informal settlement to investigate claims of unlicensed firearms.

“Officers received a tip-off that three men were in possession of unlicensed firearms and live ammunition,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Police searched the shack at the address given.

“During the search, where officers found a 9mm handgun, a revolver and rounds of live ammunition, two of the three men managed to sneak out the back of the shack,” said Maome.

The remaining man was asked to produce a licence for the firearms in his possession, but was unable to.

He was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and live ammunition, and taken to the Primrose Police Station pending his appearance in the Germiston Magistrates Court.

His case has since been postponed for plea and trial.
