Illegal protest slows down waste collection

Metro puts plans in place to collect Germiston’s rubbish.

The metro will today (June 11) institute contingency plans to collect waste in Germiston.

This follows the illegal downing of tools by Germiston waste department officials on Tuesday.

“We plead with residents to put their bins outside and to exercise patience in confidence that we are attending to the issue,” said spokesman for the metro, Themba Gadebe.

The officials are protesting against the process being used to renew a contractor which was cleaning the Germiston CBD.

The protest is illegal and waste workers are warned against partaking in illegal activities.

The municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused.
