Man forces himself onto woman in Makause

Woman raped on her way home from tavern.

A fun night out at a tavern turned into a nightmare for a young woman, who was raped after allowing a man to walk her home.

The Primrose police recently arrested the 29-year-old man for rape.

The arrest was made in the Makause informal settlement, after the victim opened a case with the Primrose police.

The woman explained that, on Friday, May 22, at approximately 11pm, she was at a local tavern enjoying herself, and it was there she met the accused.

He offered to walk her home after she announced that she was tired and, trusting him, she agreed and they left the tavern.

“On the walk home, she claimed, the man started assaulting her and ordered her to take off her clothes, as he wanted to sleep with her.

“It is alleged that he then forced himself on her without using protection,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Detectives from the Primrose Police Station followed all the leads and the suspect was arrested and detained pending his appearance in the Germiston Magistrates Court.

“We are appealing to our community to stop walking around at night, because they are making themselves vulnerable to crime,” said Maome.
