Help the animals keep warm this winter

SPCA needs your help to keep animals warm.

Winter is a very difficult time for all animals, especially those out in the cold with no protection from the elements.

The Germiston SPCA is asking the community to donate blankets, kennels, collars, leads and ice-cream containers to use as bowls.

These items will be taken to animals in the poorest informal settlements in the Germiston area.

“These animals are the ones that suffer the most when the true cold hits; please help us to help them,” said Michelle Falgate, chairman of the Germiston SPCA.

If you would like to donate, you can either bring your donations to the SPCA kennels, at 12 Junction Road, Driehoek, or drop them off at Pick n Pay Primrose Square.

Pick n Pay is assisting with the project through a collection trolley at their entrance, in which these desperately needed items can be placed.

“Pick n Pay Primrose has been an amazing help to our SPCA by assisting with donations, allowing us to hold weekly book sales at their entrance, and allowing us to collect small change at their till points, we are so grateful for their on-going support of our cause,” said Falgate.

The animals waiting for their forever homes at the Germiston SPCA also struggle in winter.

“We are aiming to get each and every animal their very own heater before the real cold hits.

“The installation of electricity into all our kennels to power individual heaters in every kennel has begun,” said Falgate.

“A very special thank you goes to Crabtree Electrical and Aberdare Cables, who so generously donated thousands of Rand’s worth of materials needed to run the electricity into our kennels, to power the heaters.”

If you would like to sponsor a heater the cost is R300.
