The SAVF Kowa Pienaar Home for the frail and the disabled officially opened on April 1, 1980.
The home provides services for the aged, as well as physically and mentally disabled people.
Kowa Pienaar Home is a place to meet new and old friends and is, therefore, a good start to a new beginning.
The objectives of the home include:
- To structure, manage and maintain comprehensive 24-hour quality care for 70 aged and disabled people.
- To structure, manage and maintain an assisted living component, targeting 15 people as an income-generating project on an ongoing basis.
Kowa Pienaar provides 24-hour quality medical care for illnesses like; Alzheimer’s, epilepsy, strokes, depression, Parkinson’s Disease, schizophrenia, muscular dystrophy, cancer and brain damage.
Residents at the home enjoy a wide range of activities, including Bingo, library, bible study, hand and foot care, hairdressing, outings and church meetings by various affiliations.
They also have access to social services, counselling services and occupational therapy.
Like in many other organisations, volunteers play an important role in the existence of the home and in the SAVF as a whole.
The volunteers form a committee selected on a yearly basis, which makes up the management board of the home.
The volunteers are responsible for all the activities in and around the home and they are utilised according to their specialised fields and experiences.
Fund-raising is one of the main objectives on the home’s calendar.
Certain residents have no family and, therefore, no financial support.
The home presently offers financial support to 26 residents.
The SAVF Kowa Pienaar Home is currently in need of the following:
- Financial resources for the “Adopt-a-Resident project”.
- Face cloths and toiletries.
- Paint (interior) cream colour.
- Pots and pans (industrial).
- Tea pots (industrial).
- Food processor for soft diets.
- Pump flasks.
- Cutlery for 70 residents.
- Second hand clothing.
- Any donation is welcome.
