Businessman arrested with R40 000 worth of counterfeit goods

Local businessman nabbed with counterfeit goods.

A businessman with a shop in Elsburg was recently arrested by members of the EMPD Germiston Crime Prevention Unit for being in possession of counterfeit clothing to the value of about R40 000.

“Metro police members were attracted to a green Honda CRV SUV containing huge suspicious bags,” said Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD.

The vehicle in which the counterfeit goods were transported.

“The SUV was stopped on Elsburg Road between Ostend and Menin streets.

“Upon examining the bags, officers came across dozens of counterfeit T-shirts bearing the labels of Adidas, Puma and Hello Kitty.”

The 42-year-old Pakistani businessman was arrested and charged with possession of fake goods, at the Germiston Police Station.
