A 28-year-old man was recently arrested after being handed over to the Katlehong police by the community.
The arrest followed an armed robbery of a 33-year-old woman, in the Likole Section of Katlehong.
It is alleged that the victim was walking home when she was confronted by three men.
The men held the woman at gun and knife point while they searched her for valuables.
The victim screamed for help and the men, having taken her cellphone from her pocket, retreated.
They were then chased by members of the community who had heard the woman’s cries for help.
One of the three men was cornered and handed over to police, while the other two escaped.
“We thank the community for their help in fighting crime.
“A case has been opened and we hope the two remaining suspects will be arrested soon,” said Capt Mega Ndobe, communications officer for the Katlehong police.
The man, charged with armed robbery, will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court soon.
