Private contactor appointed to fix leak

Flat flooded after water pipe bursts.

The Germiston City News recently received a complaint from residents of the Cora Erasmus Ekurhuleni Houses, in Bluebell Street, Primrose.

Residents were upset that the metro had not sent a team to repair a burst water pipe, which had been reported to them on April 7.

The pipe had already flooded the garden and a near-by flat, whose owner was away on holiday when the GCN visited the home.

The burst pipe had flooded the garden and flat before being repaired, 10 days after being reported.

One resident told the GCN that a metro team had arrived, looked at the burst pipe through the fence and left without a word.

The GCN approached the metro to find out who was responsible for the repair and when the pipe would be repaired.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro, responded to the inquiry with the following statement: “The burst pipe in Bluebell Street in Primrose was attended to on April 17.

“The repair was done by a contractor appointed by the Human Settlement Department.”

Do you think it was acceptable that the repairs took 10 days to be completed?
