Raucous restaurant a thorn in the neighbourhood’s side

Serious contravention of permit conditions and noise pollution halted at local eatery.

Ever since commencing with its operations on Argyle Street in the Germiston CBD, Solly’s Restaurant has been infamous for generating unacceptable noise levels which have been causing untold harm to residents in the vicinity.

This is according to Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD who said the establishment has been flouting its operating licence on a daily basis.

“With several warnings going unheeded, authorities were compelled to take drastic action,” Kgasago said.

Consequently, equipment causing the noise and other equipment used, which is not in accordance with the permit issued, were seized in a recent raid by EMPD officers.

EMPD officers seized a jukebox and pool tables from Solly’s Restaurant during a recent raid at the eatery.

EMPD officers, City Development and Liquor Board officials were involved in this special operation.

“A stern warning letter to the manager of the establishment has been issued, in which it states that in the event the same offence is repeated, he would be hauled before the court with the intention of revoking his permit.

“The owner abused his restaurant permit by operating as a fully-fledged pub, as an establishment of leisure, operating well beyond the hours he is supposed to operate and being a thorn in the side of the neighbourhood,” said Kgasago.

One jukebox and two pool tables were confiscated.

The restaurant, which is situated at the corner of Argyle Street and Webber Road in the Germiston CBD, will be closely monitored with the objective of ensuring that they operate well within the conditions as stipulated in their licence.
