Woman’s home robbed during xenophobic attacks

Woman watches as her home is robbed.

Two men, aged 23 and 25, were recently arrested by the Primrose police for public violence and housebreaking.

The incident, which took place in the Marathon informal settlement, was reported to the police by the victim.

She explained to offers that she was in her shack when she heard a group of people shouting and screaming about xenophobia.

Frightened, she left her shack and hid nearby.

From her hiding place, she watched two men break into her shack and make off with two grinders, a generator and a TV.

The goods taken were valued at R2 500.

The victim recognised one of the men and gave the police details on where he could be found.

The police followed the lead and were able to arrest both suspects.

“We are appealing to the community to stop attacking foreign nationals as our constitution does not say South Africa is for South Africans, but for everyone staying in South Africa,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The two men appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court where their case was postponed for plea and trial.
