Salvation Army is willing and ready to help

Salvation Army condemns xenophobic attacks.

The Salvation Army has condemned the wave of attacks on foreigners currently happening in South Africa.

The PR secretary of The Salvation Army Southern Africa territory, Maj Carin Holmes, said: “We are appalled and deeply saddened and disappointed at the current wave of xenophobia in the country against our fellow Africans.

“Every act of brutality is in direct contradiction of the teachings of Jesus Christ.

“We have only recently celebrated the crucifixion of Jesus and his rising from the dead at Easter time.

“How can South Africans, the majority of whom profess they follow the Christian faith, justify these violent actions at any time, let alone so soon after Easter?”

The Salvation Army, based in Durban, has become involved by providing assistance in the refugee camps that have been set up there.

The group is willing and ready to help if called on to help in other cities.
