More dogs poisoned in Lambton

Don’t leave your things in plain sight for criminals to see.

The Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF is urging people to be aware and to keep their animals safe.

Another four dogs were poisoned in Cachet Road, Lambton, recently.

This comes after eight dogs were poisoned in the road in one week (GCN, April 3).

“The assumption is that all these dogs were poisoned on premises where items visible from the street were stolen,” said Pine Pienaar, vice-chairman of the CPF.

“The CPF also thinks that the poisonings could relate to the high number of motorcycle thefts in the sector, as some of the dogs that were recently poisoned were at a home where a number of superbikes were parked at the time.”

In an incident at 4am, in Sinclair Street, recently, Sector Four patrollers spotted a suspicious-looking bakkie with a motorcycle on the back of it.

“When the patrollers approached the bakkie it sped off at a high speed, resulting in the motorbike falling off,” said Pienaar.

“The SAPS sector van was notified and two suspects were apprehended, with the help of the patrollers.

“During the questioning of the suspects they told police that six motorcycles had been stolen from Alberton and the surrounding areas and this could point to the involvement of a syndicate,” said Pienaar.

The Sector Four CPF thanks the patrollers for doing their rounds within the sector, while community members are having a peaceful night’s rest.

“We again appeal to the community to lock away valuables, and plead with them not to leave them in plain sight for criminals to see,” Pienaar said.

“This creates an opportunity for criminals to poison our pets, just to lay their hands on the items.

“Make sure gates are locked and safe as, on many a night, the patroller finds gates wide open, an invitation to enter and commit a crime which can sometimes turn out to be fatal to residents.”

The Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF requests that any concerned members of the community join the unit and become involved in marketing and fund-raising, as the need is high for all kinds of articles to ensure that the patrollers are properly and safely equipped to be out there.

“We urge the community to report all incidents, with a full description, date, time and location to the SAPS and to the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF, so that we are aware of a crime and can follow-up on the results,” said Pienaar.

Crimes can be reported to the CPF on www.lkcpf.co.za, by email to admin@lkcpf.co.za, or by a call or SMS to 072 193 8496.

Immediate attention will be given to all information and reports.

“Let’s stand together, be vigilant and proactive; it could stop crime in its tracks and take back our streets from these criminals roaming our area,” he said.
