Satawu condemns attacks on members

Satawu condemns the killing of Chris Nkosi and the petrol bombing of its president June Dube’s house.

The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) deeply regrets to confirm that one of its members, Gauteng secretary general Chris Nkosi, was shot dead by unknown assailants.

Nkosi was shot five times and died in his car, at the intersection of Russel and Wits Rifles roads, in Germiston, while driving home on Monday evening.

The Satawu president’s home, in Vosloorus, Boksburg, was also petrol bombed late on Monday night.

President June Dube, his wife and children were not harmed in the petrol bomb attack.

Satawu general secretary Zenzo Mahlangu condemns these acts of violence on the union’s leadership.

“We call on all members of the union at this delicate time, to exercise maximum restraint and to act in accordance with obligations under the law.

“We urge anyone who may have information about this shooting and bombing to contact the police immediately,” said Mahlangu

Satawu is also calling on the police to do their best to find the killers.

“We want the law to take its course, and for a thorough investigation to take place, so the perpetrators are brought to book,” Mahlangu said.

The union extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and political colleagues of Nkosi and extends its thoughts to the Dube family.
