“The purpose of the day was to offer training to those who attended.

“This was done through a number of talks by capable and inspiring speakers,” said the group’s chairman, Thabile Sibeko.

Speakers included; Liopelo Gwala from the IEC, a spokesman from the Mad Generation Reconvict Organisation based in Kahlehong, Bandile Mdlalose from CJM and Sibeko.

Entertainment was provided by the young upcoming artists, Young Blaze, Mahosi and JD AfriMedez.

During the celebration, the Vusa Umuntu Community Service Group took the opportunity to do a number of surveys with community members.

“Analysis was done during the session,” said Sibeko.

“It was identified that education is still a challenge in our communities.

“It was also noted that young people are afraid to participate in conversation or debates due to lack of knowledge and lack of self-confidence.”

The group hopes to continue its research into a number of issues faced by the community including; youth and life style, teenage pregnancy, alcohol and drugs, school dropout rates, skill development, woman abuse and child abuse.

“After our findings we will consolidate and implement corrective measures.

“We intend to work hard in order to bring change in our community and country as a whole,” Sibeko concluded.
