Hold a progressive tea to help Prim Villa

Local home needs the community’s support.

Do you want to do something to help people in your community?

Then a fund-raising progressive tea could be just the thing for you.

Prim Villa is a not-for-gain frail and mid-care facility affiliated to Methodist Homes (MHA).

The 64-bed facility, in Primrose Hill, is a home that specialises in the care of those who have Alzheimer’s or related dementia conditions.

The “Forget Me Not” progressive tea fund-raiser will run from April to September.

It is a fun, sociable way to raise funds for the home.

  • How to take part:

An individual or company or a group of women host a tea party in their home or workplace.

Invite two or three guests, five or 10 guests or 50 or 100 guests.

The choice is yours.

You supply the tea and cake and charge each guest an amount of between R10 and R100.

The money collected at the tea is then donated to Prim Villa.

“The reason the project is called a progressive tea is that you then ask each guest at your gathering to plan a tea and invite her own guests,” said Sharon Flint, the manager of Prim Villa.

“Her guests are then asked to do the same, and so on.

“One person can end up being instrumental in making 20 tea parties take place.”

Many churches have taken this on as a challenge to their congregations to get involved in the outreach on a personal level.

It is also a favourite among the Women’s Auxiliaries.

“You don’t have to limit it to tea.

“Some people have had soup and rolls, or a drinks and cocktail function,” said Flint.

“The aim of these functions is to remind us all of how lucky we are to still have our memories in working order and to be able to enjoy special times with loved ones and friends.”

Flint appeals to the community to consider helping to raise much-needed funds for Prim Villa, as this will make the lives of the residents more special.

“Call friends and family, motivate colleagues at work, have an old-fashioned tea party,” she said.

“Together we can do a little and make a big difference.”
