New positions for MMCs

Mayor announces committee reshuffle.

Executive mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele has announced a reshuffling of his mayoral committee.

The announcement was made as part of the debate of the State of the City Address, in the Germiston Council Chamber, on Thursday.

“Yesterday we delivered the State of the City Address,” he said.

“One of the key elements of this address was accelerating service delivery towards the end of the term, for the current term of local government office in 2016.

“In an effort to optimise service delivery, we must continuously assess our performance, so that the necessary interventions can be made.

“Every healthy organisation must reflect on its performance on a regular basis, to determine if the machinery remains relevant to the course.”

With this is mind, and after extensive consultations within the ANC, the decision to reconfigure the mayoral committee was made.

The following changes have been made:

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the colleagues who have served us with poise in the past years, and wish the new team luck in their future duties,” Gungubele concluded.

The DA responded to the new committee with the following statement from the DA leader in the metro, Fortune Mahano:

“The DA is glad that the mayor has heeded the call for a cabinet reshuffle, but is disappointed by the appointments made.

“Many non-performing MMCs have simply been reshuffled to fill other positions, which will surely result in those committees also under-performing,” said Mahano.

The DA feels an example of this is the MMCs of Public Transport, Planning and Provision and Roads.

“We would like to have seen new faces enter these positions in order to drive the change the people of the metro so desperately need,” concluded Mahano.
